We recently sent out our first newsletter! The contents are posted below.
Hello, and thanks for taking a moment to read the first 6PS Corporation newsletter. This is the first in a series of email newsletters that we are going to start sending every 2-4 weeks to keep you abreast of all the things happening at ServerMotion and Gigahost.
Just as a reminder, 6PS Corporation is the corporate parent of ServerMotion and Gigahost. If you’re receiving this newsletter you probably signed up for service with us. If you don’t want to receive this anymore, you can use the unsubscribe link at the bottom; but be aware that we’re going to be releasing many existing new features and products, and we’ll be giving some cool things away in the future!
New Product Launch: Advanced Java, Python and Ruby Hosting with NGASI
We’re excited to announce support for advanced hosting of Java applications that require Tomcat, JBoss, Jetty or GlassFish JVMs. Through our NGASI control panel you can manage all aspects of your Java hosting configuration and develop enterprise-quality applications on our infrastructure.
In addition to Java, these packages also offer advanced configuration of your Ruby on Rails and Python/Django applications. Our NGASI hosting accounts provide secure SSH access for the configuration and management of your application.
To order this for an existing account, simply open a support ticket and tell us the domain you want this enabled for. For new accounts, select the option for advanced NGASI hosting during checkout.
The advanced NGASI hosting is available on Linux shared hosting packages for an additional $8/month for a 64MB JVM, or $15/month for a 128MB JVM.
Updated Network Status Website
Over a year ago we launched a network and systems contingency site at http://status.6ps.com. This site is hosted completely off-network and provides a conduit for communications about planned and unplanned outages and maintenance.
Recently, we have updated it with a theme that’s a bit easier to read, and we’ve segmented it by language. Now you can select your language on the right and you’ll see only posts relative to you.
Please do make note to keep an eye on this site from time to time to stay aware of maintenance that your server of upstream network equipment might be undergoing. For planned maintenance, we try to give as much notice as possible and schedule events during off-peak hours.
Updated Terms of Service
Although not particularly exciting, we have updated our Terms of Service across all brands, languages and markets to be consistent and clearer. Some changes for ServerMotion USA customers in are:
* More clear definition of what we consider abuse, spam or phishing
* Implementation of a 3-strikes system for handling abuse cases
* Implementation of a 12-hour warning window for spam abuse notifications
* Addition of a Service Level Agreement (SLA) for uptime
* More clear definition of late payment fees
* Changed suspension to occur when 7-days past due
Of all the minor changes, perhaps the most important is the definition of our data backup policy. We keep backups for the purpose of disaster recovery. That is, if we loose servers we have daily and weekly backups so that we can quickly recover the data.
We do not keep backups with the intent of you being able to go back to any point in time and accessing your data. We offer a manual backup option directly from our control panels, so if you need to make a snapshot of your account you can do this at anytime and download it directly.
Bottom line: our backups are meant to be a disaster recovery option that we hope to never use. We keep a daily and a weekly backup that are overwritten each day and week. We like to say if you have 1 backup you have no backups, and if you have 2 backups you have 1. Should the worst happen, we are ready.
